Dr. George Thompson

Dr. George Thompson

Dr. George Thompson is a child psychiatrist specializing in the residential treatment of traumatized youth and polyvagal-informed crisis response. He serves as Medical Director for psychiatric urgent care and residential programs in Kansas and is a certified DDP therapist, helping caregivers build nurturing, trauma-responsive relationships. As neuroscience lead for the SonderWorx team and core faculty and advisory board member of the Polyvagal Institute, Dr. Thompson trains communities and professionals to foster emotionally safe, collaborative environments. He is an Associate Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Missouri–Kansas City, where he teaches compassionate physician-patient communication. His award-winning research explores medical professionalism and education. For over two decades, he has practiced and taught the Avatar® Course, focusing on personal development and service to others.
